Brou Lake Campground

by Alex Bender

Nestled between Batemans Bay & Narooma and just a few km off the highway is the little gem called Brou Lake Campground.

There are a few campsites on the side of the road to get the the main campground on Brou Lake Rd but the main campground is right at the end of the road. The main campground doesnt seem to have designated camping sites, its a big rectangular area & it just seems to be randomly pick where you want to set up camp which when we first got there kind of confused us. I don’t like setting up camp directly next to someone else if I can’t help it, but it seemed that the 4 camps set up were all at the top end of area.

There is plenty of space in the main campground so its suitable to caravans.

If you have fixed solar panels and rely on solar you may struggle, as we did, because there is lots of tree cover so if you’re staying a few days you may need to have portable solar.

Just note that the whole ground is on a bit of a slope so will probably need decent levelling.

The campground is right at Lake Brou & Brou beach, truly a piece of paradise, we were lucky enough to get there on a full moon, it was truly magical, thankfully we didn’t come across any werewolves.

The whole area is surprisingly quiet considering it being so close to other towns, but we did go there midweek not in holiday season, I have no doubt it would be a super popular place.

There didnt seem to be much day use parking area.

You’ll likely be visited by a few bandicoots during the night & there a plenty of wallabies about the place to keep you company.

The beach seemed to be filled with bluebottle jellyfish when we were there so didn’t venture into the water.

There’s a single long drop toilet there – its a bit stinky.

There was minimal phone service at the campground – it dropped in and out – but at the beach Telstra & Optus seemed to work fine.

There was no rubbish bins, however on Brou Lake Rd there is the local tip, so I guess you could drop your rubbish off there on the way out, but we didn’t think of that.

These campgrounds you have to book on the NPWS website Click Here to go to the page, I think I paid $6 for the booking, and as its a National Park you will also need to pay Park Fees. We didn’t see any Yogi Bears inspecting but its not expensive so don’t be a tight ass.
