Campfire Roundup — July 12: The Campfire’s Getting Warmer

by Alex Bender
Campfire Roundup July 12 2026 weekly update from Country Campfire

Campfire Roundup is emailed to Campfire Nation every Sunday — a quick weekly look at what’s new around Country Campfire, including poems, podcast episodes, campground yarns, Legend pages and stories worth passing around the campfire.

G’day Campfire Nation,

A bit has happened around the campfire this week.

The first Campfire Muster is out, The Campground Project has kicked off, and Keeping The Verse Alive has started gathering written bush poetry into a more permanent home on Country Campfire.

It feels like the campfire is starting to warm up.

This week around Country Campfire:

Campfire Muster – July 2026
The first edition of Campfire Muster went out last weekend – our monthly roundup of country music, bush poetry, rodeos, campdrafts, ute musters, B&S balls, High Country huts, country pubs and good yarns from around Australia.

The Campground Project has launched
The Campground Project is Country Campfire’s way of collecting real campground yarns, photos and practical notes from people who’ve actually camped there.

Big thanks to Gary Barten for helping kick it off with two great campground yarns:

Keeping The Verse Alive
We’ve also launched Keeping The Verse Alive, a Country Campfire project to help preserve written bush poetry and give poets a proper home for their work.

The project has kicked off with poems from The Wannabe Bush Poet and David J Delaney, including pieces like Flood Party ’21, Friday’s Pants on Monday, Bitcoin Mad, Old Life Dreams and Night Mistress.

Keeping The Verse Alive:

Latest from the Bush Poetry Podcast

The Bush Poetry Podcast has also had two new episodes go live:

Episode 131 – Dennis From Dennington – Billy Dettmer
An original bush poem written and recited by Billy Dettmer.

Episode 132 – Addicted To The Game – Peter Flanagan
A bush poem written and recited by Peter Flanagan, a great yarn about the FIFO life.

You can listen to the Bush Poetry Podcast on Spotify here

New Legend pages
The contributor side of Country Campfire is also starting to take shape.

This week we added permanent Legend pages for David J Delaney and Peter Flanagan, giving their poetry, links and Country Campfire pieces a proper home instead of letting everything disappear down the feed.
