There are some pieces of advice we hear for years before they finally make sense. Catherine Britt’s new single, I Get It Now, is built around that moment — when experience catches up with the words we were given long ago.
Released on 28 August 2026 through Red Rebel Music / MGM Distribution, the song reflects on growing older, listening differently and recognising the value in lessons passed down by people who know us best.
A song about finally understanding
Britt says she wants to keep releasing music that feels meaningful and true to her own story, while still leaving room for listeners to hear something of themselves in it.
“I want to keep releasing music that feels good to me. Songs that have meaning and soul and tell a story.”
I Get It Now was inspired by the way life lessons can be offered to us early, but only fully understood when we are ready for them. Britt points particularly to the advice she received from her parents, and how growing up changed the way she heard those words.
“My folks have always had the best advice and have always given it — but it takes growing up to really understand what they meant when they said it.”
It is a simple idea, but one that fits naturally within country music: family, hindsight, hard-earned understanding and the things that only time can teach.
Written in Nashville, held for the right time
Britt wrote the song in Nashville with Tom Shapiro and George Teren. Her husband, Brad Bergen, later worked with her in the studio to bring it to life.
Interestingly, the song was not written recently. Britt had kept it for several years, waiting until it felt like the right time in her own life to release it.
“This song was written a few years ago, but I have kept it all these years until it was the right time in my story to release it.”
That gives the track an added layer. It is not just a song about patience and understanding; its own journey to release seems to reflect the same idea.
A familiar name in Australian country music
Catherine Britt has built one of the most recognised careers in Australian country music. She is a five-time Golden Guitar Award winner and a six-time ARIA Award nominee for Best Country Album.
Her career has also taken her well beyond Australia. She signed with RCA in the United States at 17, achieved two US Billboard Top 40 chart singles, performed at Nashville’s Grand Ole Opry and has worked or toured with artists including Brooks & Dunn, Alan Jackson and Dolly Parton. She has also recorded a duet with Sir Elton John.
I Get It Now adds another chapter to that career, but its strength is in how grounded the story remains. At its heart, it is about something most people eventually recognise: sometimes the advice was right all along — we just had to live long enough to understand it.
