Campfire Roundup — October 11: Five Poems, Four New Tunes & Small Town Syndrome

by Alex Bender
Illustrated Australian riverside campfire and township with the October 11 Campfire Roundup headline, five poems, four music features and bush poetry on Spotify and YouTube.

Campfire Roundup is our weekly look at everything new around Country Campfire — Australian stories, bush poetry, country music, campground yarns and the voices keeping it all alive.

G’day Campfire Nation,

From harvest paddocks and a truck waiting for an oil change to the sound of a Condamine bell, there’s plenty of country life in this week’s collection.

We’ve added five written poems and four country music features, while Helen Dunn’s “Small Town Syndrome” is the latest Bush Poetry Podcast episode and YouTube recital. There’s also a question below about the future of the Monthly Muster — I’d really appreciate your thoughts.

Did You Know?

A couple of months ago, we quietly started a dedicated Bush Poetry YouTube channel. It’s another place to enjoy the poems and voices we’re preserving through Country Campfire.

Have a look at our Bush Poetry YouTube channel and let me know what you think. I’d love your feedback on it — and if you enjoy what you find, feel free to subscribe.

Keeping The Verse Alive

Five new poems from David J Delaney, Poeta de Cabra, Scott Farquhar, Ron Boughton and Tony Hammill joined the collection this week.

Country Music

This week’s music features introduce new songs from Rach Louise, Brad Millers, Katie Jayne and Amberley Maryellen — from family loss and fresh starts to a quieter life and new love.

Latest from the Bush Poetry Podcast

Helen Dunn brings her straight-talking style to episode 153, “Small Town Syndrome”. Have a listen below, or watch the YouTube version in the next section.

This Week’s Question Around the Campfire

Were you disappointed we didn’t send out a Monthly Muster this month?

I was flat out last week and didn’t get around to publishing it. I haven’t had much feedback on the Muster so far, so I’d love to know whether it’s something you look forward to.

Would you enjoy a Monthly Muster of what’s going on around the country, or are you happy with the weekly Sunday Roundup? Either answer is useful — let me know what you’d like to see.

Got something worth sharing?

If you’ve got a poem, yarn, campground, photo, old pub, High Country hut story, local legend or anything else worth sharing on Country Campfire, send it through.
