Ranger Nick is a multi-award-winning Australian bush cook, camp oven specialist, entertainer, storyteller and bush poet known for sharing practical knowledge, native flavours, humour and Australian traditions at festivals, demonstrations and community events across the country.

Raised in a large family in South West Queensland, Nick has been immersed in camp oven cooking throughout his life. His background spans environmental education, ranger guiding, heritage and interpretive tourism, botany, Indigenous culture, outdoor recreation and vertical rescue.

Camp Oven Cooking, Education and “Get It Indya”

Before taking his bush cooking career around Australia, Nick worked as an Environmental Education Support Officer with Education Queensland at an Environmental Education Centre and as a Ranger Guide in Far North Queensland. His training includes Heritage and Interpretive Tourism, botany and Indigenous culture, along with Certificate III qualifications in Outdoor Recreation and Vertical Rescue.

Since 2010, Ranger Nick has professionally showcased camp oven and bush cooking nationally and internationally. His demonstrations blend practical instruction with storytelling, humour, bush poetry, yarns and ballads, keeping Australian traditions alive while encouraging audiences to try something new.

The familiar “Get It Indya” slogan came from Nick’s older sister, who used it to encourage youngsters to try different flavours and eat their food: “Have you ever been to India? Then get it indya!” Nick adopted the expression as part of his own cooking identity, including his range of Indian Curty Kits with “A Taste of Indya”.

Ranger Nick has also helped push camp oven cooking in new directions, including pioneering the use of a camp oven as a smoker. His work combines food, education and entertainment in a distinctly Australian style.
