The world does not stop when things feel heavy. It keeps turning — and for Michael Carpenter and The Banks Brothers, the answer is to keep making something good while it does.
The Sydney-based trio have returned with The World Keeps Turning, their second single of 2026 and another spirited step into the bluegrass side of their sound.
Finding something good in the noise
Michael Carpenter wrote the song after waking one morning feeling flat about the state of the world and the way our sense of right and wrong can become distorted. Heading into his studio gave him somewhere to turn that frustration into something constructive.

That idea sits at the heart of the track. It acknowledges the noise beyond the studio door without becoming weighed down by it. Instead, the band answers with movement, harmony and the kind of musicianship that comes from three players who know exactly how to leave room for one another.
Bluegrass made in-house
Carpenter handles lead vocals, upright bass, dobro and acoustic guitar, while Jy-Perry Banks plays acoustic guitar. Zane Banks adds lead acoustic guitar, banjo, mandolin and the song’s high harmony.
The track was recorded and mixed between Carpenter’s The House Studio and Zane Banks’ studio. Keeping the production close to home allowed the trio to stretch out while retaining the warmth and immediacy that suits their traditional country and bluegrass roots.
Those roots run deep. The three musicians first bonded over old-school country records and share an appreciation for artists including Buck Owens, Merle Haggard, Ray Price, George Jones, Johnny Paycheck, Marty Stuart and The Flying Burrito Brothers. Their own music moves freely between bluegrass, honky-tonk, alt-country and rockabilly without losing its identity.
Letting life set the pace
Michael Carpenter and The Banks Brothers released four studio albums and two live albums across a busy five-year stretch, earning 15 Golden Guitar nominations along the way. More recently, the band has chosen to work at a pace that fits around life rather than forcing life to fit around the music.

There is more music taking shape, including work on a new album and a separate bluegrass project, although neither has a release date yet. For now, The World Keeps Turning is a reminder that even when the wider world feels difficult, there is still value in creating joy wherever you can.
