Preserving Australian Bush Poetry, Country Music and Rural Stories

Every year, more of Australia’s country culture disappears from the internet.

Websites are shut down.

Facebook pages are abandoned.

Photographs are lost.

Musicians retire.

Bush poets stop performing.

And with them, decades of stories, memories and contributions slowly fade away.

The internet is excellent at promoting what’s new.

We’re more interested in preserving what matters.

That’s why we started the Country Campfire Legends Project.

What Is The Legends Project?

The Country Campfire Legends Project is an ongoing effort to create permanent online homes for the people helping shape country Australia.

Bush poets.

Country musicians.

Photographers.

Storytellers.

Community builders.

The people who keep traditions alive and continue to share the stories that make regional Australia unique.

Our goal is simple.

To ensure their work, achievements, stories and contributions can be discovered, enjoyed and remembered for years to come.

Not hidden away on old Facebook posts.

Not lost on a forgotten hard drive.

Not buried beneath the endless scroll of social media.

But preserved in a place where future generations can find them.

Why It Matters

Australian country culture has always been built around people.

The poet travelling from show to show.

The musician playing country halls and festivals.

The photographer documenting life in the High Country.

The volunteer who has spent decades helping run local events.

Many of these people have made enormous contributions to their communities, yet have little or no permanent online presence.

When their stories disappear, part of Australia’s cultural history disappears with them.

Country Campfire was created to help tell those stories.

The Legends Project takes that one step further.

Meet The Legends

The Country Campfire Legends Project has already begun bringing together bush poets, country musicians, photographers, storytellers and community legends from across Australia.

Some have spent decades performing on stages, at festivals, country shows and community events.

Others have quietly documented rural Australia through photography, storytelling and a lifetime of contribution to their local communities.

What they all share is a passion for preserving and celebrating the people, places and traditions that make country Australia unique.

As the project grows, each legend will have a dedicated profile bringing together their biography, photographs, performances, podcast appearances, stories, links and contributions in one permanent place.

And they’re only the beginning.

Over time, the Country Campfire Legends Project will continue to grow, featuring poets, musicians, photographers, storytellers and country characters from every corner of Australia.

Each profile helps ensure that the stories, achievements and contributions of these Australians can continue to be discovered, enjoyed and remembered for generations to come.

More Than A Profile Page

This isn’t about creating a directory.

It’s about creating a living record of the people helping keep Australian country culture alive.

Every profile connects to stories, poems, photographs, interviews, podcast episodes and future contributions.

As Country Campfire grows, so too will the collection of legends who have helped shape it.
