Ron Boughton is a Blue Mountains bush poet and reciter with a love of rhyme, metre and the stories found throughout Australia’s bush towns.
Ron shares a quiet family life with Wendy, his wife and soulmate of 54 years, and particularly enjoys time with their four grandchildren. Now retired after more than 50 years as a bricklayer—or, as Ron calls it, an “artist in burnt clay”—he continues to embrace new challenges with humour and persistence.

A Life Shaped by Work, Words and the Bush
Ron spent more than five decades working as a bricklayer before retiring. He describes his efforts with computers in the same self-deprecating style that colours much of his outlook: as a computer expert, he made a good bricklayer.
Writing and reciting bush poetry gives Ron both a challenge and a deep sense of satisfaction. He particularly enjoys the moment when rhyme and metre come together and a poem finds its proper rhythm.
Ron and Wendy also enjoy visiting bush towns and learning about their histories. It is an interest Ron was fortunate to pursue through many years of motorcycling, travelling through country communities and discovering the stories held within them.
One piece of wisdom that has remained with Ron comes from Toastmasters: success should not be judged by where you are, but by how far you have come from where you started.
