Rob Baldinger, The Venison Diplomat, author, bush poet and outdoorsman.

Author • Bush Poet • Storyteller • Outdoorsman • The Venison Diplomat

Rob Baldinger is an author, bush poet, storyteller, outdoorsman and contributor to Country Campfire, better known online as The Venison Diplomat.

Based in the Bega Valley in New South Wales, Rob writes about wild food, wild places, family, hunting, fishing, foraging, growing food and the deeper connection between people and the natural world.

Through The Venison Diplomat, Rob shares stories that encourage a thoughtful, honest and often humorous look at outdoor life, food, adventure and where our food comes from.

This page brings Rob’s books, poems, stories, links and Country Campfire features together in one place, giving his work a permanent home outside the fast-moving social media feed.

Wild Stories, Wild Food, Wild Places

Rob’s work sits naturally around Country Campfire because it comes from a lived connection to the land. His writing is shaped by the outdoors, family, food, hunting, fishing, foraging and the idea that people should better understand the natural world they are part of.

His children’s books bring outdoor culture into a space where it is not often represented, using story, poetry, humour and emotion to open conversations about hunting, food, ethics, family and respect for nature.

Country Campfire exists to preserve, celebrate and share Australian country culture, and Rob’s work forms part of that bigger campfire — one where country stories, outdoor life, family traditions and thoughtful conversations still have a place.

How Rob Found Bush Poetry

Rob first got into bush poetry in 2018 after attending the Scone Horse Festival, where he saw bush poets perform original poems that were unique, funny and full of character.

That experience gave him the itch to have a go himself. Since then, he has written a small collection of poems, some written for family and friends, others performed at events, and one published in Australian Deer.

His poems often lean toward humour, hunting, outdoor life and the little moments that stick with people. That same mix of country storytelling, wild places and good-natured humour is what makes his work a natural fit for Country Campfire.
