Portrait of Australian bush poet Narelle Stoll

Bush Poet • ABPA Member • CWA NSW Virtual Member

Narelle Stoll is an Australian bush poet whose writing is shaped by country beginnings, community involvement and a renewed desire to share her work. Her Country Campfire Legend page will bring together her poetry and other contributions as they are published through the Keeping The Verse Alive project.

Born and raised on a farm at Culcairn in southern New South Wales, Narelle spent her first 15 years in the country before moving to Sydney for boarding school. She now lives in the Nepean Valley on Dharug Country in New South Wales and is a member of both the Australian Bush Poets Association and the Country Women’s Association of New South Wales as a virtual member.

This page gives Narelle’s work a permanent home beyond the fast-moving social media feed, allowing her poems and Country Campfire features to be gathered in one place and added to over time.

Country Roots and a Return to Bush Poetry

Narelle’s interest in writing poetry grew after she took part in the Illawarra Folk Festival. As a member of the Australian Bush Poets Association, she competed twice at Corryong in 2012 and 2013. Although she did not place, a couple of her poems were published in the association’s magazine.

In 2012, Narelle also sent a poem about one of Norway’s wartime heroes to the Norwegian Resistance Museum. After stepping away from competitions and writing for personal reasons, she is now looking to restart and share more of her work.

Her connection to country life began on the family farm at Culcairn and continues through her involvement with the CWA, bush poetry and community writing. Country Campfire is proud to provide a lasting place where that work can be preserved and discovered.
