James Cayce is the pen name of Zbigniew “Zig” Ignaszak, a bush poet, humourist and storyteller whose work has been featured on Country Campfire since the early days of the Bush Poetry Podcast.
Born Zbigniew Ignaszak to Polish parents who came to Australia after the Second World War, Zig writes under the name James Cayce because, as he puts it, it is far easier to pronounce than the name he was born with.
James has been writing poetry on and off for around ten years, mainly bush poetry, while also developing a strong urge to write parodies and humour pieces. He likes to bring comedy into poetry where he can, believing there is already plenty of poetry written about tragedy and hard times.
His writing carries humour, memory, gratitude, family history and a clear appreciation for Australia, the people who built it, and the stories worth keeping alive.
