Bob Pacey

by Alex Bender
Bob Pacey, Queensland bush poet, performer and storyteller

Bush Poet • Performer • Storyteller

Some people write poetry.

Bob Pacey lives it.

Based in the Rockhampton and Yeppoon region, Bob is one of Queensland’s best-known bush poets and performers, with a lifetime of stories, characters and verse stored away for just about every occasion.

In full flow, Bob can make a grown man cry at ten paces — and depending on the poem, those tears might be from laughter or despair.

A Queensland EKKA Virtual Bush Poetry Champion in 2021 and 2022, Bob has performed across festivals, caravan parks, pubs, clubs, libraries, showgrounds, museums, markets, private functions, regional shows and schools throughout Central Queensland and beyond.

With more than 120 poems committed to memory, Bob brings a rare mix of humour, heart and old-fashioned storytelling to the stage. His performances cover everything from dunnies and grey nomad adventures to the dangers of drinking and the funny side of married life.

Bob performs regularly for tour groups at Bayview Towers in Yeppoon and has appeared at events including the Rockhampton Regional Show, Mount Morgan Show, Mount Larcom Show, Emerald Show, Yeppoon Show, Ag-Grow, Boyne Island and Tannum Sands Country Music Festival, B Bar H Spring Spectacular, Monogorilby Camp Oven Festival, Livingstone Shire Australia Day and the Yeppoon Village Festival.

He has also performed at Pineapple Festival, The Outback Golf Masters, Bardclaine and Boondooma Spirit of the Bush, Mackay Rock and Country Festival, Nebo Poets Breakfast and Gemfest.

Since 2012, Bob has been a regular performer during Beef Week in Rockhampton, helping entertain visitors during one of Central Queensland’s biggest rural events.

Whether he is standing on stage, performing in a caravan park, supporting a charity, visiting a retirement village, or sharing a yarn with a crowd that knows how to listen, Bob represents the kind of Australian storytelling Country Campfire was built to celebrate.
